Counselling

  1. How does counselling work?

Research has shown that it is not so much the counselling model that is significant to the success of counselling but the relationship with the counsellor. I believe that to be the cornerstone of all good therapy and it is important that we establish a good working relationship where you feel safe.

  2. What is counselling?

Counselling offers the opportunity for you to express your thoughts and feelings about your difficulties in a non-judgemental atmosphere and then to look at ways of working through these difficulties to a place of choice and release. I do not advise or take the problem away but I would help you to understand your life better which can bring you insight and choices about what is troubling you.

  3. How much does counselling cost?

I charge £40 per session and couples are £50. Payment can be made by cheque or cash at the end of each session.

    Individual per session £40
    Couples per session £50
    Session length 50 minutes
  4. What qualifications do you have?

I have a BA in Theology and Counselling, Diploma in Social Work as well as further post qualifying training ranging from adoption, body image and trauma.

  5. What happens after I make contact with you?

Following your initial contact with me, we will make an introductory appointment which is called an assessment. I will hear something of your story and medical background and you get to meet me. Together we will decide if counselling is appropriate for you and you will be free to say if you want to continue with me. The normal fee will be charged for this.

  6. What happens after we agree to proceed?

We will work out a mutually convenient time. This will normally be at the same time each week, but can be flexible if your situation prevents you from making a regular commitment. I offer daytime and some evening sessions. I work Monday to Thursday.

  7. How long is a session and how many will I need?

A session is usually 50 minutes. This is conducted within the comfort of a designated room in my house and in the strictest confidence. It is difficult to say how many sessions a person needs. I work both on a short term basis, which can be 6-12 sessions or open ended which means we agree to finish when you feel the issue has been resolved. It is your choice. I also counsel couples who are experiencing problems in their relationship.

  8. What if I get upset during my sessions?

Tears can be very therapeutic! They are a valid part of the process and can come as you share your experience with your counsellor.
