Moving towards a better tomorrow

Lonely Girl Depression, abuse, bereavement, fear, low self-esteem are just some of the things that can beset and hinder us from moving forward in our lives. Counselling can enable you to look at the issues facing you from a different perspective. I can accompany you on this journey and enable you to begin walking it through and working it out.

What is counselling?

Counselling works Counselling offers the opportunity for you to express your thoughts and feelings about your difficulties in a non-judgemental atmosphere and then to look at ways of working through these difficulties to a place of choice and release. I do not advise or take the problem away, but my aim is to help you understand your life better which can bring you insight and choices about what is troubling you.

Intergrative models chart Counselling model

I use an integrative model of counselling which uses different approaches that are tailored within ethical and professional boundaries.

Relationships The counselling relationship

Research has shown it is not so much the counselling model that is significant to the success of counselling, but the relationship with the counsellor. I believe that is the cornerstone of all good therapy and it is important that we establish a good working relationship where you feel safe.

Questions

What if I get upset during my sessions?

Tears can be very therapeutic! They are a valid part of the process and can come as you share your experience with your counsellor.

What if I don’t have a particular issue but would still like someone to talk with. Can you help?

Yes. Many people find that having someone to talk to on a regular, ongoing basis can bring real benefits to them. We can meet weekly, fortnightly or monthly on this basis.

What happens after I make contact with you?

Following your initial contact with me, we will make an introductory appointment which is called an assessment. I will hear something of your story and medical background and you get to meet me.

Together we will decide if counselling is appropriate for you and you will be free to say if you want to continue with me.
